The Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment is seeking stakeholder views on the development of a principles-based better practice guide for Farm Debt Mediation (FDM) that leads to consistent and efficient outcomes for those farmers and lenders going through the FDM process. This guide would align with the recommendations of the Banking Royal Commission, which focus on a national FDM scheme and early engagement.
Attached is a consultation paper with discussion questions that has been circulated to key stakeholders, including the banking sector and state and territory government agencies, as well as support services like the Rural Financial Counselling Service.
Resolution Institute will be submitting a response to the consultation paper and we are inviting members, particularly members who are on farm debt mediation panels, to share your feedback with us to assist with developing a considered and comprehensive submission.
