This is a request on behalf of the Elder Justice Initiative on Eldercaring Coordination, in collaboration with Professor Michael Saini, Ph.D., Factor-Inwentash Chair in Law and Social Work, University of Toronto and Jonathan Alschech, Associate Professor, School of Social Work, University of Northern British Columbia. Your help is needed in the development of the Eldercaring Conflict Tool. We are creating this tool for assessing conflict in older families to use in eldercaring coordination, a dispute resolution process for families regarding the care and safety of an older adult (see https://www.eldercaringcoordination.com) and by numerous other professionals working with families and older adults.

With the information gleaned from the tool, professionals will be better able to match interventions to characteristics and needs of each unique family. Preliminary testing of the tool showed significant promise (thank you so much if you gave input the first go-around), so we are now in the second phase of the study to retest with a broader pool of professionals – your help is crucial.

We would be so grateful for your input with Pilot 2 of the study and so will the older adults and their families who will benefit. Please help us by assessing a case study using the tool on the link provided and submitting your survey on or before May 9, 2022.

To access the survey, please click here:

    https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ECCPilot2

It will take you between 20-30 minutes to read the scenario and complete the survey. Since your responses will be completely confidential it is necessary to finish in one sitting. There are no right or wrong responses. Think of this as a case you might have where you have just completed your intake and are beginning work with the older adult and/or family; you may not know all of the answers on the survey.

Along with completing the tool, as part of the survey you will be asked to give us your feedback. We are so appreciative to hear about your experience and anything you think will be helpful. Please send this email to any other professionals that work with elders or families in conflict who might be interested in assisting us with this research to further develop the tool.

We know how very busy you are and that the gift of your time is most generous. Thank you so much in advance – Linda Fieldstone, Sue Bronson, and Judge Michelle Morley Co-Chairs, Elder Justice Initiative on Eldercaring Coordination, in collaboration with Michael Saini, Ph.D. and Jonathan Alschech, Ph.D.
