Bio

Amanda worked for ten years in the criminal justice system across both youth and adult environments in SA and the ACT. She began working as a facilitator of restorative justice conferencing at the ACT's 'Restorative Justice Unit' in 2010.  At that time working with juvenile offences which attracted maximum sentences of ten years or less, this would often include matters of great impact for people involved. Later in 2014, Amanda became the manager and helped to steer the RJ Unit into stages 2 and 3 of its legislated potential. This meant facilitating conferences for adult offences, more serious offence types and finally, in 2018, included family violence and sexual offences as eligible referral types. The RJ Unit's capacity for managing such complex and emotional matters was enhanced by training and connections with New Zealand's Project Restore program, the Qld Juvenile Sexual Offence Conferencing Training Unit, Blue Knot trauma training (to name a few) and much consultation across diverse local community and government agencies. Amanda has now returned to Kaurna/Peramangk country to work, live and play after doing so on Ngunnawal/Ngambri country for seventeen years. Amanda helped to establish the Canberra Restorative Community Network in 2015 and is a member of the Australian Association of Restorative Justice and the Oceania Network of Restorative Practice for Sexual Harm and the Australian Association of Restorative Justice.  Amanda is a restorative engagement panel facilitator with the Office of the Commonwealth Ombudsman. She is looking forward to finding opportunities to support restorative initiatives in SA as well as maintain restorative justice facilitation skills.  She is delighted to be a member of the Resolution Institute which creates a vital hub for useful connections and shared learning.
